Scents Library

Scents Library is a library whose axis is the reading of scent — a flagship inspired by the turning of pages, so that you walk into a volume rather than a counter.

The room is laid with perfumes that grow from a single material or image, each paired with the drawing, colour and cut that belongs to it. You read the words, look at the plates, and only then understand the memory a scent is trying to return. Wearing becomes layered. Perfume and the humanities sit at the same table.

A perfume is a book worth keeping: to be read slowly, without end. Each perfume begins in a particular material. Its own voice is complete, and yet it can sit in concert with another — a concerto assembled from what is large and what is almost too small to name.

We set the shop out like a library: to be walked, opened, discovered. Five niche houses — Perfumer H, Nasomatto, Orto Parisi, Bienaimé 1935 and Obvious — at Shop 1029, 1F The Promenade, Galaxy Macau. Sun–Thu 10:00–22:00; Fri–Sat and public holidays 10:00–00:00.

The mark is a trial bottle.

The start of the story.

You do not walk into a counter. You walk into a library of scent. The first thing in the hand is not a bottle to take home. It is a trial bottle: a little perfume, on skin, then wait for it to open and to dry. Every visit begins there.

So the mark is that vessel. Not a trophy bottle. Not a shopfront flourish. The trial bottle — small enough to be passed, complete enough to be read.

We chose Φ for lasting beauty. The ratio belongs to forms meant to be kept — a page, a column, a bottle. Width, foot, neck and cap in golden relation; every contour an arc of 1.0x, 0.618x or 0.382x. Geometric consistency is the same angles and weights, always. Constructibility means the bottle can be redrawn and still be itself. A freehand silhouette dates. This mark is built to last.

1. 01A balanced vessel

   The goal is a trial bottle in harmony. Precise geometry is the foundation, not an organic freehand line.

2. 02Golden ratio Φ ≈ 1 : 1.618

   Body width is 1.0x. Base width is 0.618x. Height is Φ · x. Cap and neck take Φ⁻¹ and Φ⁻² of the body. Curves follow the golden spiral.

3. 03Interlocking circles

   Every contour is an arc of a circle whose diameter is 1.0x, 0.618x or 0.382x. The base arc is the 0.618x circle, tangent to the baseline. The 0.5x block sits at the foot.

4. 04Symmetry and hierarchy

   One vertical axis. Cap < neck < shoulders, each a factor of the body. The solid mark is those arcs merged.

Product guarantee

Scents Library is the sole authorised retailer of Perfumer H, Nasomatto, Orto Parisi, Bienaimé 1935 and Obvious in Macao. We monitor product quality closely and guarantee that all goods sold on this website and at Shop 1029, The Promenade, Galaxy Macau, are genuine products of the original houses.

Suppliers and houses may, according to the requirements of each market, remove outer cellophane, alter boxes or otherwise re-pack goods. Packaging, batch coding or the appearance of a bottle may therefore differ slightly from images on this website or from displays in other boutiques. Such variation does not affect the fact that the product is genuine.

Delivery and collection

At checkout the customer may choose collection at the Macao shop, an eBuy locker in Macao, an SF Express locker in Hong Kong, or courier delivery to a street address in Macao, Hong Kong, Mainland China or Taiwan. Alcoholic perfume, room sprays and other goods subject to carriage restrictions may not be available on every method; availability is confirmed on the checkout page before payment. All cross-border orders are exported from Macao. Postage, timing and any free-shipping threshold are as displayed at the time of payment.

Orders destined for Hong Kong or Macao are carried by SF Express or JD Logistics, as follows: where the net order value reaches HKD 500, or the equivalent in the currency selected at checkout, standard express delivery is free of charge. Where the net order value is below HKD 500, postage is HKD 35.

Orders destined for Mainland China, including without limitation South, East, Southeast, Central, West and North China, are carried by SF Express or JD Logistics, as follows: where the net order value reaches HKD 500, or the equivalent in the currency selected at checkout, standard express delivery is free of charge. Where the net order value is below HKD 500, postage is HKD 45.

Orders destined for Taiwan are handed to an international forwarder for air or expedited sea freight, declaration and delivery to the address nominated by the customer, as follows: where the net order value reaches HKD 700, or the equivalent in the currency selected at checkout, postage to that address is free of charge. Where the net order value is below HKD 700, postage is HKD 55. The goods must clear Taiwan customs. Clearance time is outside this website’s control; every time given on this site is an estimate and is not guaranteed. The customer must provide a Taiwan national identity card number and complete real-name authentication in the EZ WAY (易利委) app by binding a mobile number to that identity card or ARC number, so that a paper power of attorney can be dispensed with. If the goods are inspected, the person named as importer must cooperate unconditionally in supplying papers requested by this website. Fees and other consequences arising from a refusal to cooperate in clearance are borne by the customer. After the goods are dispatched, the customer must watch the EZ WAY declarations and tap to confirm that they match, so that the parcel may be released as soon as possible.

Import duties and clearance

This website exports from Macao. Every cross-border order is sent from Macao. If goods are delivered to a country or region outside the Macao SAR, you are the importer of record there. You may have to pay surcharges, duties, VAT, consumption tax or other import fees, and you may have to register or apply for an import licence. Those charges and papers are set by the destination’s law. This website cannot control or estimate them, and takes no legal responsibility for them or for the paperwork. If you have questions about import duty or the law where you live, contact the local customs authority.

Pressing Continue to finish the order means you accept responsibility for every surcharge, tax and import paper attached to the goods. If the parcel is returned because you did not meet that duty, this website will keep 15% of the goods total to cover postage. The shop must declare the true value of the goods. Some countries require a document stating the contents and value to be attached to the outside of the parcel. We cannot, in any circumstance, change the declared value on customs papers at a customer’s request.

If a parcel is returned for reasons that sit with the customer — incomplete or incorrect details, refusal to pay duty, or a failure to clear customs in time — this website is not responsible for seizure, destruction or extra fees, and will not refund the order in full. Returned goods of that kind are subject to a handling charge of 15% of the order amount plus outbound and return postage; the balance is refunded after those sums are deducted.

Notice for customers in Taiwan

From 16 May 2020 the Customs Administration of the Ministry of Finance of Taiwan requires real-name authentication for overseas parcels. The purpose is to protect the recipient and to make clearance safer. To give the parcel a chance of clearing and arriving on time, please note the following.

• At checkout fill in complete and accurate recipient details: Chinese full name, mobile number, and national ID number (身份證字號). They must match the ID exactly.
• After you order, download the official Customs app EZ WAY (易利委) and complete real-name authentication. If you do not, the parcel may not clear.
• The international forwarder we appoint (凱弘集運) will declare the name, ID number and mobile number as filled on the order. If they do not match the EZ WAY authentication, the parcel may be delayed or refused.

If you hold an ARC (居留證) or another document, contact the shop immediately after ordering so we can confirm the correct details. Delay or failure to clear because of real-name authentication is not the shop’s responsibility. If the goods are inspected, the person named as importer must cooperate unconditionally in supplying papers requested by this website; fees arising from a refusal to cooperate are borne by the customer. After dispatch, watch the EZ WAY declarations and tap to confirm that they match, so that the parcel may be released as soon as possible. Every time given for Taiwan is an estimate and is not guaranteed.

Returns and exchanges

Orders

An order is confirmed when payment is received. Once confirmed, the method of delivery, the shipping address and the contents of the order may not ordinarily be changed. Unpaid orders, or paid orders that have not yet been packed, may be amended or cancelled on the same day by contacting the shop; whether this is possible depends on stock and packing progress. The shop reserves the right to refuse, cancel or limit any order, including where we reasonably suspect purchase other than for personal use, repeated orders, or inaccurate information.
